Day 187 – July 6, 2018

Book Words – VJWC / Object – FOWC / Amorous – WODC  / Hospitable – RDP

Last week VJ at One Woman’s Quest II mentioned in a comment that she couldn’t wait to see what I would come up with for her next challenge.  Then I saw her prompt for the week – book? Really? I asked her.  But then she said for me to choose a word that means something to me.  So after wrestling with it a little bit I chose a word – recipe. (Recipes can be found in BOOKS!😬 ) Now this isn’t a joke or a gimmick or some cheap way to illicit a chuckle.  Hear me out. (*Disclaimer – I recognize those who are battling an eating disorder, and in no way am I dismissing or mocking that struggle.) Who, honestly, doesn’t love food, or have a love/hate relationship?  When you hear the term “food porn” you know exactly of which I speak. To say there isn’t some amorous relationship with food, is a stretch.  I have yet to meet someone* who doesn’t turn to food as a way to comfort you.  Food is not just some object to cast aside.  We need it and if you don’t you know darn well there is someone out there who does.  Now there are a number of soap box speaking rants I can go on in regards to the humanitarian, social and economical issues pertaining to food.  But that’s not what this is about.  This is about the word recipe.  I love cooking.  I love to cook for people.  When it comes to hospitality, my kitchen is open.  In fact, I will cook for others before I cook for myself.  And it makes sense.  I see a recipe as a loose guide rather than a strict instruction.  A recipe for me is a prompt to creative cooking.  I am “that guy” who will order “off the menu” at a restaurant.  I don’t want to eat something I don’t like.  So if a dish calls for a certain ingredient that I am not fond of, I will alter it and end up “concocting” a dish that is of little similarity to the original recipe.  When I hear/see the word that creative mind starts churning.  And that is not always a good thing. 😳**believe**  (Photo of completed recipe below)

          1. Yea that’s true. Although throwing a couple of chicken breast on with a can of soup and some water isn’t that bad. You can even put them in frozen!😋

        1. True, but I think I just need to learn moderation, sometimes being overly creative shuts it down! Easier said (typed) then done. 😳 But I love all the prompts equally, and I am way too lazy to create a schedule. (Although on my “last-minute” days, I do have 3 I rely on– yours being one of them 😬)
