I have talked about how close I am to FEMA and the National Firefighters Academy. On any given week you could see any number of different crest’s on shirts, jackets, hats and sides of cars. In a local bar, within walking distance to the Academy, it is highly likely that you would find a group of firefighters from any number of stations grouped together exhibiting such camaraderie. And in May, the Academy hosts the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial. The atmosphere is such a stark change from any other weekend. The photos above come from the bar, which takes great pride in displaying the patches from stations all around the globe. The bar itself is covered with in patches protected by an acrylic sheet. And then, covering the walls all around the bar are hundreds of these crests. Just like the ones in the second photo. It is quite a site.
