Walking on Thin Ice

Frozen Fishin – January 2, 2018fullsizeoutput_5a05

Stopped at a nearby lake to look for some “ice” shots. I was super lucky to meet two guys who, after drilling a couple of pilot holes, determined that the ice over Lake Mae was thick enough to set up camp and try some ice fishing.  6 inches of ice was all that separated us from a 20 foot deep (at this hole) icy abyss.  They set up shop, which included a pop up, tent like, ice shelter which, combined with a small portable heater, produces a 70+ degree cabin. As they described, it is definitely warm enough to allow them to stay out on the ice for long periods of time.  I was thrilled that they allowed me to photograph them and I remember now that meeting friendly people is one of the perks of this endeavor.
